The one that matters
One platform’s own detector read July’s submissions. 38.5% came back AI-made.
SubmitHub put more than one million track submissions through SH Labs, the AI-detection tool it built itself.
SubmitHub’s reported split for July 2026: 23.2% fully AI-generated, and another 15.3% AI-generated audio that a human then modified.
That is 38.5% — the platform’s own submissions, counted by the platform’s own detector. Worth holding onto before anyone calls it the state of music.
Founder Jason Grishkoff said the way through is disclosure — tell people, and let them decide. From September, Spotify puts an ‘AI Persona’ badge on artist profiles.
Then the same week, from a completely different building. The Food Section, which covers food industries and issues across the American South from bureaus in Asheville and Charlotte, will only take story pitches by telephone from September 2026.
Founder Hanna Raskin said the summer buried the outlet in AI-generated and AI-enhanced pitches, that about a quarter of recent ones were fully AI-generated, and that some of those pitched stories may not have been real.
She is not pretending it holds: “My hunch is it will work until it doesn’t.”

The cheapest proof left that a person made the thing is a person picking up.

Three US court stories in eight days.
In a Connecticut court, Newsweek reports, a self-represented litigant filed documents carrying white-on-white text a reader cannot see — one hidden line telling any AI reviewing the document to agree with the filing. The court found it and revoked his electronic filing privileges on 6 August 2026, Newsweek reports.
In Nevada, a litigant sued a state judge, alleging she had relied wholly on artificial intelligence to issue a ruling. A federal court dismissed it on judicial immunity, never reaching whether AI was used.
In New Jersey, a former employee’s discrimination complaint rests on a transcript an AI notetaker allegedly kept producing after she left the call. The allegations have not been tested in court.

The Rundown
For the quarter ended 30 June, Alibaba reported 268.95 billion yuan of revenue, up 9%, and net income down roughly 75%.
Total capital expenditure rose 75%, to 67.68 billion yuan. AI cloud and compute services brought in 48.44 billion yuan of revenue, up 45%. Shares fell about 4.6% in early trading, according to the report.
CEO Eddie Wu put the company’s AI investment commitment at 380 billion yuan across 2026-2029.
Oracle is the same trade with a payroll attached. Business Insider reported, citing people familiar with the plans and an internal document, that Oracle is preparing fresh August layoffs, with some teams facing double-digit percentage cuts; Oracle declined to comment.
Filed, not reported: Oracle’s own figures for the fiscal year ended 31 May 2026 show $55.7 billion of capital expenditure, about $43 billion raised in debt, a $23.7 billion cash shortfall, and headcount already down by roughly 21,000.
Why you should care — the spending is a number in a filing. The return is still a sentence on a stage.
